Superego means "super-self". The partner is perceived as a distant and somewhat mysterious ideal. Their manners and way of thinking are interesting. There are outwardly quite cool relations with internal sympathy for each other. This is how the superego relationship manifests itself at a distance.
If there is no topic for conversation that both are interested in, the communication is quite formal. Each wants to express their own point of view more than listen to the partner. This is due to the fact that the topic of the conversation always falls into the area of the leading, strong function of one and the normative, trained function of the other, the latter of which is of little interest to listen to. It gives the impression of understanding and interest in yourself, although you suspect that it is shallow.
When there are closer ties, the nature of the superego relationship takes on a new, unpleasant side. In words, the understanding usually remains good, especially with matching subtypes. In fact, it turns out as if the partner is doing everything to spite you. They either do not warn about their intentions, or they do not listen to each other enough. Therefore, they do the opposite of what your partner expects from you. This can generate considerable controversy. The internal predisposition to the partner does not disappear. The hope that the ideal is still achievable does not disappear.
The extra-introversion of the partners also has a strong effect on the superego relationship. Of the two extroverts who have a superego relationship, one is usually dissatisfied with the other paying little attention to them, being excessively busy with extraneous affairs instead. Of the two introverts, one usually feels that the other is too intrusive, does not leave them alone.
